Mrs. Laura M. Hastings, the widow of Professor Lemuel S. Hastings, died in Kensington, Maryland, September 22 at the home of her son, Alfred. Mrs. Hastings, who will be remembered by many of the older graduates as Laura Cobb, was born in Hanover and returned to her birthplace in 1906 when her husband received an appointment in the Department of English, after having spent the earlier part of his life in public school work. Mrs. Hastings is survived by two sons, Harold, a graduate of the class of 1900, and Alfred, a graduate in the class of 1904.
Mrs. D. C. Wellsdied at her home on (Jollege Street on October 10 after having been in poor health for several years. She was a sister of President Tucker but came to Hanover after her marriage with Professor David Collins Wells, who established the Department of Sociology at Dartmouth and remained at its head until his death in 1911. Mrs. Wells is survived by two children, Ruth, who graduated from Bryn Mawr College in 1911, and Collin, a graduate of Dartmouth in 1913.
