George F. Baker, donor of the great new Baker Memorial Library, for the first time saw the building which his generous gift erected when he visited Hanover, September 18. Mr. Baker was accompanied by Mr. John J. Morran, President of the Atlas Cement Company; by his secretary, Mr. Frank Rysavey; and by a nurse. He reached the Norwich and Hanover Station by special train from New York City and was escorted to the Baker Library by officials of the College.
President Ernest M. Hopkins and Mr. H. B. Thayer, a trustee of the College, showed Mr. Baker through the building, and explained the use for which the various rooms are designed. Mr. Baker left early in the evening for the home of Mr. Morran at Littleton. New Hampshire.
Prevented by sudden illness, Mr. Baker was unable to attend the dedication exercises of the Library at Commencement in June. He was then represented by his son, George F. Baker, Jr. Mr. Baker is eighty-eight years old and is forced to lead a somewhat inactive life because of his advanced age. He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Laws at the one hundred and fifty-eighth commencement of the college in June, 1927. This was his first visit to Hanover since that time.
