CLASS OF 1883
The Secretary was elected on November 6 to represent his town in the state legislature, leading the Republican ticket by 97 votes and being indorsed by the Democrats, who had no candidate.
John W. Gordon on the same day was elected to represent the city of Barre after a spirited contest, running as an independent after failing to receive the Republican nomination at the primary.
