DARTMOUTH STILL FAVORED

The unintelligible thing was that the experts still picked Dartmouth to win a football game, and all were unanimous that they would take the hide off the Brown Bear the following week. Brown came, played the Green off its feet and took another ball game, this time by a 14 to 0 score. The Green was without Black. Wolff, Reece, and a score of others. Marsters again tried to carry on, but his leg would not hold him up, and he was again a detriment to the team. As with Harvard, however, there is still the open question whether Brown would have taken us into camp with our full strength. It is a sure fact that they played heads-up, hard football, and flashed a demon ball carrier in Capt. Cornsweet.

It is hard to review these three games, however, without some sort of an "if" clause. After Brown had smacked Dartmouth, the team was plunged into the depths of despair. For in this game, Mike Sherman, veteran guard, was so injured that he was declared through for the season, and Bob Harris, another veteran of three years, was also declared through. McDonough was injured, and left us without a quarterback.

The fullback situation was worse. Just why there is an eternal hoodoo on Dartmouth fullbacks is hard to understand, but this situation was prevalent after that game. Capt. Black was still in a so-so condition, and Ed Sutton was so hurt that he was not taken to Cornell. Si Snider was out with a broken ankle, and only a fourth string man was available, Henry Johnson. He was the only fullback on the squad left.

By this time my good contemporaries in Boston conceded the fact that Dartmouth had won their last football game of the season. Shot from stem to stern physically, the Big Green had a makeshift line, and were slated to be piloted by a quarterback who had not played a single minute of football this year, Tommy Longnecker. It is a fact that the student body gave the team no send-off when they left Hanover for Ithaca.

808 HARRIS GAINS FOR DARTMOUTH Taken in a pouring rain at the Yale Bowl, this photo shows remarkably well one of the flashes by Bob Harris, Big Green quarterback. Running from punt formation, he nearly broke loose for a long run. He was tackled by Loud, Eli back. The play gave Dartmouth a first down.
