THE UNDERGRADUATE CHAIR
FEBRUARY, 1928

In a few days girls will be streaming into Hanover from all sections of the country for that famous Dartmouth institution—Carnival. Although the examination period will not be over until February 4, the majority of the dreaded mid-years are out of the way and the thoughts of the undergraduates are already centered about Carnival, which comes February 9, 10, and 11 this year. After an unusually warm December and early January, the cold weather and snow which we now have is all the more appreciated, especially with Carnival only a few days away.

The plans of the Carnival committee of the Outing Club have been so carefully worked out that it will be impossible for everyone to have anything but a wonderful time. The championship ski-jumping tournament of the Intercollegiate Winter Sports Union will be the headliner on the Carnival program. Even the most sophisticated admit that they get a thrill watching the men hurtle through the air at a terrific speed. All three geographical divisions of the Union, the Eastern, Central, and Canadian, will be represented, and also Wisconsin and Lafayette. Every popular winter sport, both outdoor and indoor, will be found on the program of this 18th annual Winter Carnival, including the annual hockey game with Yale, basketball game with Harvard, swimming meet with Springfield, the Players' performance of "The Green Peach," fraternity dances Thursday and Saturday nights, and the Carnival Ball, the apex of Carnival. Turrets and battlements will frown down on the great Tournament Pavilion in which the Ball will be held. Guests dressed as knights, squires, pilgrims and Saracens will help furnish the medieval atmosphere which is the motif of the decorations. Ernie Andrews and El Patio Room Orchestra from the Clinton Hotel, Springfield, Mass., will play for the tournament.
