Construction work on the $2,000,000 building program of Dartmouth College for next year was started immediately following Commencement. The- Carpenter Fine Arts Building to be erected at the northwest corner of the library will be completed by June 1929. It will be connected with the library and will house facilities for the instruction work of the Department of Art together with a space for exhibitions and a suite of rooms for the entertainment of visiting artists. J. Fredrick Larson, college architect, announces that the plans for the Sanborn English House are in final form. The English House is to be placed at the southwest corner of the library, balancing the Fine Arts Building, and construction will start during the summer.
Two additional dormitories will be ready for occupancy in September, 1929. They will be erected west of Gile Hall on Tuck Drive and together with Gile will form the new group of three dormitories. The central building will run east and west with the third dormitory identical in size and form to Gile Hall. Middle Fayerweather and Wilson Hall, now in process of remodelling, will be ready for use in September. Repairs and renovations on several dormitories will be carried on during the summer. Plans for the new enclosed hockey rink are still in tentative form and no date has been announced for starting the erection of the arena.
Faculty accommodations are being augmented by the construction of 'one two-family house and two single-family houses on North Park Street, just north of the Parker Apartments. The trustees of the College recognize the need of additional housing facilities for the faculty and these houses will provide homes for eight families. The Clement Botanical Building on North Main Street is now completed and will be used next year in conjunction with Biology courses. The building now occupied by the Green Lantern will be demolished this summer and the Webster House will be removed to a position adjacent to the Phi Sigma Kappa house, forming a square with the Choate House and the Clement building.
One fraternity house now under construction, Sigma Alpha Epsilon will be completed before September and will be ready for occupancy when College opens in the fall. The Chi Phi house was dedicated at Commencement. This was built on the old site.
