Fraternity Scholarship

Another event of importance to the fraternities is the publishing in The Dartmouth of the scholarship standing of the societies for the year 1927-28. Alpha Sigma Phi again stands at the top with an average of 2.967. Fraternity scholarship standings have been taken every semester since the opening of college in September, 1909. During the 18 years that have elapsed since that time Sigma Alpha Epsilon has led on nine different occasions. Alpha Sigma Phi, Sigma Alpha before going national, has led the other 25 fraternities for the last six successive semesters.

The average for the College has shown a steady increase scholastically since the present decimal system of averaging the undergraduate body was started in 1915. fci that year the average for the College was 2.073. The average for the College for the year 19271928 was 2.298. The average for the College has never fallen below 2 point. On three different occasions, however, the average for the fraternity personnel has fallen below that same figure.

Fraternity standings show many changes since last year. For the year concluded last June no fraternity shows an average above 3 point. Last year Sigma Alpha attained this distinction. Pi Lambda Phi, which held down fourth place last year, is in second place this year. Psi Upsilon climbed from last position to 22 in the list. Theta Chi and Sigma Alpha Epsilon both show decided gains. Except for these two houses the others have kept their same places except for a few who have gone up or fallen a few points.
