At the same meeting, 15 freshmen who have been working steadily with the club since late autumn were added to the membership of Cabin and Trail. The newly selected members were welcomed at a special dinner given in their honor by Cabin and Trail at the new Outing Club house.

W. E. Bragner '30 has been appointed by the D. O. C. as hutmaster on Mt. Moosilauke for the coming summer and B. S. Sherwood '30 has been named head trailsman.

The Moosilauke Summit Camp, maintained by the D. O. C., opens its 10th season on June 15. The crew, consisting of a hutmaster and three assistants, accommodated 2,293 hikers last season.

With the planting of 2000 four-year-old pine trees on the Newton tract in Norwich, Vt., the Outing Club recently inaugurated a reforestation program extending over several years. The young trees have been purchased from the Vermont forest service and are both red and white pine. They will be planted in alternate rows eight feet apart, and should materially increase the beauty of the land about the Newton cabin. It is expected that the plantation will provide a better supply of spring water and serve as a cover for game birds and animals.

The Outing Club Council recently approved a plan of the D. O. C. House Committee to found a John C. Rust Memorial Library at the Club House.

A fund of $500 has been offered to the Outing Club by Dr. Carl Rust in appreciation of the search for his son, a former member of the class of 1930, who drowned after a canoeing accident last spring. This sum will be the basis of the collection which will be enlarged by additions from year to year.

The library will represent books of adventure, exploration and sport, and will include fiction and poetry as well as guide books, manuals and maps.

The Rev. John E. Johnson '66, the greatest single benefactor of the Dartmouth Outing Club, was unanimously elected honorary president of this organization at the annual election meeting of Cabin and Trail.

The Boot and Saddle Club has been adopted into the fold of the Dartmouth Outing Club by the Outing Club Council. Henceforth, Boot and Saddle will be affiliated with the Outing Club under the same status as the Ledyard Canoe Club and the Bait and Bullet Club.

Boot and Saddle is a riding club which has been very active in this its first year, going on week-end horseback trips, cabin parties, moonlight jaunts and the like. The club gave an exhibition drill during Carnival.
