Death of Blickensderfer
June 1929 Albert I. Dickerson

The College was deeply moved by the death of R. G. Blickensderfer '28, of Denver, who drowned on April 28 when the canoe in which he was paddling with his roommate capsized in the rapids eight miles above White River Junction. Blickensderfer, a second-year medical student, was with a party of six students paddling down the White River in three canoes from Bethel, Vt., to White River Junction. The canoe preceding that which was carrying Blickensderfer capsized in the same spot, while the third canoe safely negotiated the narrow stretch of racing water.

The body was discovered after an intensive 40-hour search, which was directed by the College by Rolf C. Syvertsen, secretary of the Medical School, and Evan A. Woodward of the English Department. The entire student body of the Medical School, as well as members of the Outing Club and other volunteers, participated in the search. Memorial services were held in Rollins Chapel.
