DR. JAMES A. SPALDING '66 is one of the oldest living graduates of the College. Dartmouth gave him an A.M. degree in 1891 and his Alma Mater honored him with a Litt.D. in 1928. He is a graduate of the Harvard Medical School, class of 1870, and lives in Portland, Maine.
ARTHUR DEWING '25 comes to Hanover in September as instructor in English. Since graduation he has been engaged in news- paper work and as an assistant editor of the Encyclopedia Britannica.
DR. JOHN W. BOWLER, professor of Physical Education for many years, was graduated from the Dartmouth Medical School in 1906. He is familiar to hundreds of Dartmouth men as medical director and trainer of teams in former years. More recently he has directed an important phase of the work of the department of Physical Education the building up of students who are under weight or poorly developed physically.
PROFESSOR DARGAN, head of the department of English, has held his position at Dartmouth since 1923. He had previously taught at the University of North Carolina. He received his bachelor's degree from Mercer University in 1910 and subsequently his A.M. and Ph.D. degrees from Harvard.
JEROME PEARRE, a member of the class of 1930, lives in Pontiac, Illinois. He is one of the five seniors who have held the coveted Senior Fellowships during the academic year 1929-30.
E. V. SIMBELL graduated from Cornell in 1924, and received a Master's degree from Leland Stanford in 1926. He taught at Stanford and the University of Illinois before coming to Dartmouth in 1927. For the past two years he has been assistant-editor of the Quarterly Journal of Speech, in charge of reviewing contemporary speeches.
