At its recent Commencement exercises, Columbia University publicly awarded to Professor Leonard B. McWhood, of the Dartmouth College Department of Music, a Columbia University medal. These medals are conferred on "outstanding alumni in recognition of their achievement since graduation." Five medals were awarded this year, this being the first Commencement at which they have been publicly presented to recipients in person.
In conferring the award, President Nicholas Murray Butler referred to Professor McWhood as having achieved a distinguished career as student, teacher and interpreter of the art of music.
