REPORT OF THE ALUMNI FUND COMMITTEE
AUGUST 1930 F. H. LEGGETT '98

In reporting for the Alumni Fund Com- mittee Mr. Leggett, who is completing his second term as chairman of this important branch of Council activity, went into some detail concerning the present standing of the Fund and the reasons for this. Mr. Leggett gave figures showing that the Fund was running behind for the same date one year ago, both in the number of contributors and in the amount of the quota already subscribed. He also spoke concerning the reasons for the apparent slump this year, deducing that the psychological effect of the break in the stock market had had a great deal to do with the poorer showing made at the date of the Council meeting this year. He emphasized the point that he did not think that Dartmouth men were less able financially to contribute to the Fund than in previous years but he said that the effect of harder times was evident in the greater difficulty this year to secure contributions.

Mr. Leggett spoke concerning the budget of expense which had been planned for this year, saying that a ratio of expense to collections of 5.4 had been established preceding the campaign and that he believed this could be held to. Following the report it was VOTED: That there be applied to the William Jewett Tucker Fellowship for the year ending June 30, 1930, $1,000.

That the balance be appropriated to apply on current expenses of the College and as an addition to the permanent endowment fund in such proportion as the Fund Committee may approve after the final figures for the year, both for the Fund and the College, are available.

It was likewise VOTED: That Robert C. Strong be reappointed Executive Secretary of the Alumni Fund for the year 1930-31.

It was finally VOTED: That the report of the Fund Committee be accepted and approved and that the Council express its appreciation of the valuable and effective work done by the Committee in the present campaign.
