CLASS of 1927
DECEMBER 1931 Doane Arnold

We regret that no 1927 column appeared in the November issue. However, as no news whatsoever reached our ears or eyes between September 10 and October 10 it is perhaps not surprising that we found too much difficulty in composing a column. Since that time the Yale, Harvard, and Stanford games have undoubtedly caused many groups of '27 men to get together, and it is about time someone transmitted a little information about what took place at these gatherings to your Secretary.

We were fortunately able to attend the Yale game in New Haven, and while there met a fairly large group of our class members. Among them were: Ted Rose, "Van" Van Aalst, "Van" Ingham, Bill Abbott, Don McCall, Ethan Hitchcock, Dick Mommers, Joe Hardin, Bob Reinhardt, Bob Williamson, Dinty Gardner, Al Chabot, Hooker Horton, Charlie Allen, Phil Fowler, Josh Davis, Ted Swanson, Johnnie Upham, Don Megathlin, Gordon Smith, Walt Bowlby, Bob Mix, Roy Blanchard, Charlie Bartlett, and Carl Schuster. There were undoubtedly several others whose names we did not have an opportunity to jot down. As a matter of fact we almost missed seeing about four touchdowns when writing down the above list. What a game!

The night before the Harvard game we had the usual class dinner at the University Club. It was not as well attended as it has been formerly, but those present seemed to enjoy themselves sufficiently to call it a success. The few loyal ones, or undepressed ones if you wish to call it that, were Gus Cummings, who did all the work of arranging for the dinner, Bill Cusack, Rog Bury, John IJpham, Bill Macaulay, Phil Fowler, Charlie Bartlett, Herb Hansen, Fred Whittemore, and Bob Page.

It was interesting to note at both games what a large percentage of the Twenty-seven men had their wives with them. We do not mean that it was interesting to note how many of them were still taking their wives around, but rather that it was interesting to note how many of them were married. We only recall two, Joe Hardin and Phil Fowler, who when questioned admitted in rather weak voices that they were still living lives of celibacy.

A few more who have recently joined the ranks include first, Roy Dreher, who was married to Miss Lillie Townsend of New York city on Saturday, October third. Roy and his wife are now living in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Next the announcement of Miss Lauretta Taylor of Richmond, Va., to Mr. Eugene Robert Sullivan on Monday, October 12. Mr. and Mrs. Sullivan are now living in Flushing, N. Y.

Stan Manson was married to Miss Betty Deneice Stribling of Gadsden, Ala., on Saturday, October 31. They are now "at home" in Coral Gables, Fla.

Chuck Field left the employ of the Wallace Silversmiths of Wallingford, Conn., last April, and is now out in Chicago, where he has charge of the statistical department of the Grigsby-Grunow Company. This concern is responsible for "Majestic, the mighty monarch of the air," radio tubes, and refrigerators.

Fred Thompson has left the large town of Cocoa, Fla., and is now in Springerville, Arizona, where he has become interested in ranching.

Reg French, who last year taught Romance languages at the University of Missouri, is now doing the same at Williams College.

Lee Greenbaum is working in New York city, where he holds the position of vicepresident of Metropolitan Distributors, Inc.

Harold Blanchard is an accountant for the Firestone Footwear Company in Boston.

Dave Merriam is living in Boston and is working for the Old Colony Trust Company, which concern recently merged with the First National Bank of Boston.

Donald Wood is now working in Boston as a consulting electrochemist. He is living out in Lexington.

Oren Herwitz is an attorney, practicing in the office of Judge Samuel Seabury in New York city.

Sam Martin is also an attorney-at-law, and is located out in Portland, Oregon.

Another member of the bar is Wilbur Parker, who is now practicing in Manchester, N. H.

Dow Mills is now, we imagine, Doctor Mills. At any rate he is out in Rochester, Minn., at St. Mary's Hospital of the Mayo Clinic.
