C. E. Clark writes that he is once more on the other side of the earth, and that with him are his daughter Ruth and his son James, both assisting in the educational work in Turkey. He sends kind regards to all '98 men.
Seelman sends a clipping from the SundayTimes of Pete Adams, who is one of the hosts of the great scientist Einstein while he is visiting California. I suppose Pete is one of the few Dartmouth men who can talk intelligently with Einstein. What a treat it would be for an ordinary mortal to sit near while they converse and then have the conversation interpreted afterwards.
Under date of December 5 in the MorningOregonian there is quite a long article in memory of the birthday of our classmate Bishop Walter T. Sumner of Oregon. The article started off with the paragraph: "Dartmouth College boasts no more active 'old grad' than Rev. Walter Taylor Sumner, D.D., bishop of the Episcopal church in Oregon. He graduated from college in 1898, the year of Roosevelt's Roughriders, Dewey's May Day, and Alger's embalmed beef." The article then goes on to speak of the great many interests to which Walter Sumner gives his time and energy.
There was a good group of '98 men at the Dartmouth-Stanford game, consisting of Patterson, Swift, Pete Adams, and Sumner. At the banquet the night before a number of '97 and '98 men sat together, and the diners knew that '98 was on hand because a good '98 cheer was given.
Charles Littlefield is very prominent in the Masonic life of Rhode Island, and is frequently called upon to represent Masons in different parts of the state.
Bill Hewes was recently mentioned in connection with the presidency of the State College in Rhode Island. Bill at one time was a very popular professor of mathematics in that institution.
