To attend the annual gathering of the Secretaries Association at Hanover is an inspiration of great value, and I only regret that every one of you Potholeskers could not have shared with me the privileges of the two days, May 1 and 2. Such fellows of about our time were there as Phil Patey of the '98 battery of Patey and Drew, and my first sight of Patey was of his chasing a foul ball from one of the fraternity games on the campus and just as he doubled back his arm to throw, breaking wide open his old smile; Ben Bond 'Ol, president of the Western Massachusetts Dartmouth Association, Everett Stevens of the same class, Arba Irvin 'O2 all the way from Tulsa, Okla., as secretary of the Oklahoma Dartmouth Association, Beck Johnson 'O4 and Arthur McClary 'O5, Eddie Hunter '01 looking fit as a fiddle, and of course Dave Storrs '00 was right on deck. Bill Murray '02 of the Tuck School and Eric Kelly '06 of the English department made our spare moments doubly interesting.
A letter from Charlie Chedel of Middletown, Conn., shows him to be in fine fettle, enjoying his professional career and a happy home with a wife and two daughters. Charles extends an invitation to any of the class who may pass through Middletown to stop at his home, and if they enjoy golf he'll take them out to the club for a game. It is reported that Chedel is another 1903 golfer who manages to swing his clubs over the Hanover course each tummer. I wonder if "Queech" Safford ever sook your measure on that course, Charlie?

Jim McElroy 'SI, son of John Hale McElroy '03, gave me a most interesting account of the Mt. Washington party of this winter of which he was a member. Without going into detail, let me say that the week-ends and holidays of the winter time of the Dartmouth boys of today are not what they used to be in 1903. Imagine John Hale fighting a blizzard on top of Mt. Washington. It was on the road to Lebanon that John drove the old horse. Jim is contemplating entering the Harvard Theological School and the Episcopal ministry, and we have the feeling that he will make good in his efforts.
