The appraisal of the estate of Mrs. William Pierce Johnson, recently deceased in California, was $3,570,000. This is the largest estate filed with the court in California for this year and one of the largest ever filed. Johnson died in Paris, August 24, 1926. In accordance with his request before his decease, his wife gave $100,000 to Dartmouth.

He says the most inspiring and gratifying bit of news he has received from the financial world for some time states that two parishioners of a former church he served for 13 years had given the church a quarter of a million dollars; evidence, he says, that poor preaching does some good.
Mrs. William E. Barrett, who recently died at Boothbay Harbor, Me., established a fund for the aid of worthy, unfortunate families, especially fishermen, of that village. Many summer colonists joined her and have contributed and will contribute to the fund. Mrs. Barrett lived at Boothbay Harbor all the year round during the last years of her life.
Ed and Mrs. White were agreeably surprised by relatives and friends, June 18, who wanted to celebrate with them their 38th wedding anniversary. The affair was quite informal. Refreshment tables were presided over by their two daughters-inlaw, and two granddaughters assisted in serving. Many friends who were unable to be present sent greetings by mail or telephone. Ed rounded out 50 years with the Boston Globe last January. He is still on the payroll, but doesn't work very hard for his money.
