By the time this appears it will be time to be thinking of the Dartmouth special trains from New York to both Philadelphia and New Haven, as well as the boat to Boston for the Harvard game. The train to Philadelphia, October 15, will leave the Pennsylvania Station at 10:50 A.M., arriving right at Franklin Field at 1 P.M., and returning to New York one half hour after the'game.
The Yale train on October 29 will have the annually optimistic travelers going to New Haven, and let us hope an unusually gay train-load coming back.
The Dartmouth Alumni Association of New York, in collaboration with the Dartmouth Club, will have a special wire from the football games and report the games play by play, as they have always done. As it is reported that there will be no radio football game broadcasts this fall through any of the national stations, the Club's activities in this direction should be particularly well attended. Only members of either the Club or Alumni Association, or guests accompanied by members will be admitted to the Club during the Saturday football broadcasts.
The Dartmouth Golf Tournament was held in July this year at the Grassy Sprain Country Club, Bronxville, N. Y. There was quite a good turnout, and everyone seemed to thoroughly enjoy the day. Charles C. Warren Jr. '11 had the best gross score with an 83. Ernest S. Learoyd '14 won the Kickers handicap, which was a very fine leather traveling bag donated by the club president, Basil "Doc" O'Connor '12. One of Dartmouth's former football stars, Bill Knibbs Jr. '05, also won a prize.
During the spring and summer months there has been quite a lot of activity around 24 East 38th St. One can usually find a bridge game with such good players as T. Brown, Hal Halstead, Joe Kinney, Homer MacVean, Cy Aschenbach, Charlie Milham, Ed Redman, Bob Williams, Bill Biel, Jack Steeves, Phil Thompson, and many others.
Our ping-pong room gets constant use with players like Bud Weser, Ed Plumb, Jack Hubbell, Carl Schuster, Bob Austin, Charlie Graydon, Chris Hackett, and Collin Wells sending tough shots back and forth that only the best players can return.
Since the price of room rents has been reduced there are several new members living at the Club, where they find excellent living conditions, with service, and at a very moderate cost.
Beginning in September, the Alumni Association has arranged with the Dartmouth College Club at 24 East 38th St. to hold open house every Tuesday for Dartmouth men and their guests. A regular Tuesday luncheon will be held in this connection.
This will serve as an invitation to visit the Club on that day. You can sit around the lounge and talk, play ping-pong or bridge, or do anything you want.
