At the meeting of the Alumni Council in New York October 28 the following resolution on the death of Professor William Patten was adopted:
RESOLVED: That in the passing of Dr. William Patten, the College has suffered anincalculable loss. The memory of hisgenial personality is the cherished treasure of all Dartmouth men whose privilege it has been to know him.
The magnitude of his service to Dartmouth is fully appreciated only by thosewho knew him well. Sacrificing personalambition and the opportunity forgreater renown, he gave unstintingly ofhis time, that the youth of Dartmouthmight be given understanding.
As a scientist and explorer in the realmsof research, he commanded internationalrespect. As a teacher and a man, weloved him. We extend to his family ourdeepest sympathy.
