President Goes Abroad
JUNE 1932

President Hopkins sailed from New York on the Olympic, May 6, for a brief visit abroad. His decision to go at this time was made with the discovery that the projected trip could not be arranged before his necessary return prior to Commencement unless he should sail May 6, thus making it impossible to speak according to schedule at the dinner of the Secretaries Association in Hanover the following night. He addressed a letter to the Secretaries expressing regret at his inability to meet with them as planned on account of the necessity of making his brief trip abroad at this time.

At his departure the President spoke in anticipation of a visit to Mr. Tuck at his estate near Paris. His other plans were not definite. He will return on the Empress ofBritain via Quebec, and will reach Hanover during the first week in June.
