Freshman rules were formally restored to the Dartmouth campus by a recent declaration of Palaeopitus. The student governing body issued a set of seven rules and announced that it would appoint a sophomore vigilance committee to enforce them. The return of rules, Palaeopitus declared, will make for greater class unity and greater respect for Dartmouth traditions, and will improve dormitory discipline and the general attitude of freshmen.
The new rules require the wearing of freshman caps from the opening of College until Wet Down, the removing of these caps in all buildings, and the saluting of the President and the Deans of the College by a touching of caps. Smoking on the streets, walking on the grass on campus and around the college buildings, and the wearing of prep school pins and insignias are forbidden.
