Dartmouth Athletes Continue Superlative Winter Season, Winning All 16 Contests in Four Sports in Past Month

SINCE THE LAST ISSUE of this MAGAZINE, Big Green teams in four different sports have participated in 16 different athletic contests without defeat. With eight consecutive victories, the basketball quintet heads the list, while the hockey and wrestling teams have each scored three victories, and the track team two.

The Big Green basketeers appear to be well on the way to their seventh consecutive Eastern Intercollegiate League basketball title, and have already gained the distinction of being the leading college quintet in the East this year, as well as one of the outstanding teams in the country. The Indians are undefeated in league competition, and against strong outside opposition they have dropped only one decision- to the Mitchel Field service five.

After the brief Christmas vacation the hoopsters swamped Williams 75-47 in a dull contest in the Alumni Gym. Larry Killick and Captain Aud Brindley divided scoring honors with 17 points each, while Larry Baxter accounted for 16.

On January 1 at Philadelphia the Dartmouth quintet started the New Year in approved fashion as they turned back Pennsylvania, 54-48, in a thrilling contest which saw the Indians take over the lead in the final minute to win going away. Baxter and Captain Brindley led the scoring with 15 points each, while Killick added nine. Chink Crossin, the Quakers star forward, was high man for the night with seven field goals and five free throws for 19 points.

In a game rescheduled from an earlier December date, the basketeers trounced a reportedly strong Fort Devens five, 73-55. Baxter again led the scoring spree with 19 points. Brindley accounted for 12 and Killick scored 11. Big Walt Dropo, giant Devens center, was high man with 31 points.

The Indians moved nearer the league hoop title in their next contest when they conquered Columbia, 51-40, in the Alumni Gym. Harry Leggat and Larry Baxter each netted 13 points to lead the scoring. Aud Brindley tallied seven points, and put on a brilliant defensive performance as he held Walt Budko, the Lions' high scoring center, to one lone basket through the entire contest.

Against the Boston Coast Guard the Big Greeh hoopsters had little trouble as they romped to a 56-41 victory. Larry Baxter with 14 points and Brindley with 11 led the Indians' attack. Larry Killick, the Indians star left forward, rang up nine points in the first half, and then was forced to leave the game with an ankle injury in the opening minutes of the second frame.

The Dartmouth quintet continued its winning ways with a 75-40 win over the Camp Thomas five from Davisville, R. I., in another Contest on the Hanover court. Captain Brindley took high scoring honors with 22 points, while Baxter registered 18.

Facing Princeton in their second meeting this winter, the Indians again scalped the Tigers, this time by an easy 54-31 count in the Alumni Gym. For the second time in two games Brindley poured in 22 points to again take high scoring honors.

Captain Aud Brindley, six-foot-fourinch center, is currently leading the Dartmouth offensive attack with 133 points in ten games, while Larry Baxter, sharpshooting set shot artist from St. John's, is in second place with 121 points. As a team the Big Green hoopsters have averaged 56.5 points per game, and have held enemy quintets to an average of only 41.8 points over the ten game route.

DEFENSE STALWART. Al Foster '45, USMCR, who is back this season to give strength to the defensive department of the Big Green sextet.

SCORING ACE. Captain Dick Rondeau '44, USMCR, center on the famed Bomber Lines of the past two seasons, who is again sparking the attack for Dartmouth's high-scoring hockey team.
