OF GENERAL INTEREST

Christmas holiday season has probably been the most active, in the record Committees in all areas have been struggling with rating cards and interviews with hopefuls for next year's entering class. This task becomes more serious each year, and the alumni seem to be making a much better job of it. Preliminary reports would indicate that alumni appraisals of the flock will be passed along to Dean Strong on schedule There were a few at Stamford, December 20th, for the basket ball game with the University Club. Pete Hurd '23 and Hal Ryder '25 seemed to lead the chinners between the halves Robert Benjamin '24, leads the pack as the most useful. At intervals, it is a certainty that recent changes in address, jobs, etc. are forwarded for file correction. With a few more such helpers, we might have an accurate check on our Connecticut residents.

HOLIDAY PARTIES

DECEMBER 27TH—HARTFORD: Annual Meeting. Jack Saladine '17 staged a preliminary to one of the best city association meetings ever held in the State. This fireside group included Charlie Rice '23, Ken Weeks '26, and Pat Partridge '11, all delighted with the chance to talk Hanover with Craven and Pudge Neidlinger. At the Hartford Golf Club, there were one hundred and twenty more equally keen for such an opportunity. Craven is unabashed in proclaiming Hartford as his pet group of alumni, and the answer is in the open when the "hello" hour starts festivities. He calls them all by name, or nearly all, because he was caught bluffing just a few times Hartford undergraduates with their dads swelled the total attendance by go. Ken Weeks '26, State President, had the party in charge, with the usual good job resulting. One of the primary reasons in the background was a start towards the organization of a Fathers' Club of Hartford. Deans Laycock and Neidlinger were the real attractions, plus movies, Hanover and Connecticut Associations.

NEW BRITAIN—DECEMBER 29TH: The first luncheon of the season drew 24. It was decided that four meetings per year will suffice. Eight candidates for entrance were in terviewed and reported. A 1 Schilling '02, Dick Pritchard '14, and Phil Pelletier '15, engineered the party. EASTERN ASSOCIATION—JANUARY 3RD: Here's the coming crowd. It took courage to stage the round-up at the Norwich Inn, and when Dean Laycock learned that more than fifty were a certainty for the first try to gather them together, it was his firm conviction that this group deserved representation from Hanover. Pudge Neidlinger came to bat in fine style, and rounded out a program with Ben Marshall. Alumni, undergraduates, next year's candidates, and their parents, staged a grand mixed party. Hanover and Connecticut Association movies were shown. Dr. Hugh Lena '12 (Hug to us) and Art Shurts '30, deserve a aig vote. It was a job, as jobs should be done. NEW HAVEN: Whit Gowrie '24, promises action soon. The New Haven round-ups are always fun. WATERBURY: Steele Smith has writer's cramp, maybe not writer's but none-theless cramp. Even so, the usual monthly programs have been going along in fine style. The group of prospects from the Waterbury area seem likely for next year. WESTERN AREA: A committee headed by the Stamford group was a help to the solution of Dick Pritchard's problem for the alumni rating of the Western area, to cover Darien, Stamford, Greenwich and such points. It is interesting that this group was second in numbers to the Hartford area. BRIDGEPORT: At a cellar party, scheduled for Dartmouth Night, it was voted that the Bridgeport Association should support Natt Emerson's campaign at Moosilauke. Funds being just a little shy of the purchase price of a unit, delay was advisable until the January meeting, so that the balance could be collected. A wit suggests application for a "Hangover Acre" .... Rotating the monthly meetings at the homes, usually cellars, of alumni and fathers seems popular The nominating committee, appointed by President Sides, will present (it is rumored) the following slate for the coming year—President, Sarg Eaton '11, Vice-President—Harry White '25, Secretary—Ed Spargo '24. Movies are scheduled for the affair to be staged at the home of Dr. Lieberthal, January 9th.
