Realizing that those that ride to hounds hereabouts need a pick me up during the week between Xmas and New Years while their mounts are in transit from the Jersey mountains to Southern climes, Chub Hetfield '31 had his Dartmouth Club of the Plainfields pull "Ye olde fashioned Hanoverian Bull-Shoot" at John Pedeflous' famous Mushroom farm and Eating Place. The local press spent days explaining that a Bull Shoot may be a Bull Shoot even though live turkeys and maybe a duck or two are given away to the winning shots. Thirty-five local sportsmen reported armed to the teeth and shot well enough to take from us six live turkeys and two live ducks. The ladies had all sent their corduroy skirts South; so twenty-seven of them took our men over to the Twin Brook Country Club for dancing in the evening. This all happened on Saturday afternoon and evening, Dec. 29, 1934.
The popularity of these Christmastide dances enables us to continue giving The Dartmouth Cup each June to the outstanding boy in Plainfield High School as well as to the best in North Plainfield High School.
