Two victories and three defeats have been the lot of the Green basketball team in league competition during the past month. After losing to Harvard, 30-19, in the first contest following the examination period, the Indian courtmen provided a climax to the Carnival sports program by trouncing Yale, 42-20, before a packed house. They then went on to down Cornell, 29 to 20, at Ithaca, but dropped their next two encounters to Pennsylvania, 29-26, and to Yale, 37-33. Throughout the five contests, A1 Bonniwell continued his phenomenal shooting and went far into the lead in league scoring.

The result of the Harvard game was classed as an upset, but the Crimson five outplayed the Indians in all departments of the game. Bonniwell was the only Green courtman who could locate the basket, and his ten points enabled him to break the tie in scoring honors which existed between himself and Freeman of Penn. Play was even up to the point of g-all, but Harvard stepped out shortly before the half ended and was never headed again. A brief rally brought Dartmouth up to 15-14 in the second half, but Doys and Fletcher went on a scoring rampage to give the Crimson a 30-19 edge and its most impressive league victory.

INDIANS STUN YALE

Fresh from its victory over the great N. Y. U. five, Yale came to Hanover as Dartmouth's Carnival opponent and was stunned into a 42-20 defeat by the relentless scoring power of the Indians. Bonniwell was again the individual star with 16 points, but Dartmouth's team play was vastly improved over that at Harvard, and Art Toan, starting his first game at right forward, proved himself an exceptional play-maker. Unmarred by numerous fouls. play was fast and exciting at all moments, and the Indians amassed a 21-10 lead during the first half. Yale spurted at the start of the second period, but Bonniwell, Toan and Davis got to work again to maintain the Green lead. Davis had 8 points for the evening and Toan 7, while McKernan and Hubbell, with 4 each, contributed to the rounded attack. Eggie Miles led Yale with is points.

The victory over Yale enabled Dartmouth to maintain its third-place tie with Princeton, and by defeating Cornell, 29-20, four nights later, the Indians took undisputed possession of third place. Dartmouth led throughout the contest and held a 13-7 advantage at half time. Bonniwell's shooting was the feature of a rather dull game, and the Green leader added 11 more points to his dizzily mounting total. The encounter was rough throughout, 15 fouls being called on Dartmouth and 12 on Cornell. The Indians lost Bonniwell and Kubbell on personals, while Captain Foote and Wilson of the Ithacans were chased to the showers. Cornell crept to within 13-10 in the second half, but a brace of baskets by McKernan, two more by Bonniwell and another by Davis gave the Big Green a decided lead. McKernan, Toan and Davis followed Bonniwell in scoring for the evening.

In handing Dartmouth a second league defeat, 29-26, at the Palestra, Pennsylvania presented a better balanced offense, five men dividing the scoring fairly evenly while Toan and Bonniwell carried the Green cause between them. Bonniwell was forced to take second honors for the evening, as his teammate accounted for 12 points, one more than the Green leader netted. Hashagen's brilliant shooting in the first half gave the Quakers a lead which they were glad to have in the second period when Dartmouth made a determined bid for victory. Bob Freeman, Penn's captain and Bonniwell's scoring rival, headed the Quaker sharpshooters with 8 points.

Yale got revenge for its Carnival defeat on February iB, by downing the Indians, 37-33, at New Haven in a game that was undecided until the final minute. Dartmouth dropped to fourth place, behind Princeton, as a result of the defeat. Bonniwell ran wild with 18 points, but his teammates were able to contribute little in the way of scoring punch, and again the opponents' better-rounded attack proved the margin of victory. Dartmouth rushed into a is-5 lead, but Yale cut this down to 20-19 before the half ended. The lead jockeyed back and forth in the second half, with Yale's strength in the closing minutes settling the issue.
