NEW HOCKEY LEAGUE
March 1936

Prospects of a new intercollegiate hockey league composed of the present members of the Quadrangular League and teams from four Canadian colleges are bright, according to William H. McCarter '19, acting supervisor of athletics. Negotiations are now under way between the two groups, and it would be no surprise to see the new league inaugurated next season. There is some difficulty at the Canadian end in determining their four representatives, but McGill and Toronto are certainties, with Montreal and Queens mentioned for the other two places.

According to present plans, each team in the league will play ten games—two against each team in its own country and one against each foreign team. The Quadrangular League will thus remain intact and the Hobey Baker Trophy will continue to be contended for. There will be no postseason play-offs in case of a tie, a special committee determining the champion in the event of a deadlock at the end of the league campaign. In meeting the foreign teams, each member of the Quadrangular League will play host to two of the Canadian clubs and encounter the other two in Canada, alternating the opponents from season to season.

Such an international league would add immeasurably to intercollegiate hockey in this country, and would strengthen the American-Canadian collegiate relations now confined almost entirely to skiing.
