Coach Tuss McLaughry returned to active service in the Marine Corps for one day recently, just long enough to be promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. .... Number 2 man on Coach Red Hoehn's squash team this winter is Rob Roy Carruthers '42, who was the navigator of the plane which flew General MacArthur from the Philippines in 1945, marking the first step in the long road back from Bataan Although the present basketball aggregation is, as remarked elsewhere, no powerhouse on the offensive (except against Army), Coach Ossie Cowles rates them the best defensive outfit he has had in his seven years at Dartmouth. The only team which has managed to beat them and at the same time score more than 40 points is Holy Cross, who seems to be loaded this year in all departments The ski team suffered a grievous personal and athletic loss recently by the death of Clarence Edmunds, V-12 engineering student, and the serious injury of Bob de Forest '49 in an automobile accident. The boys were on their way to Stowe, Vermont, to get in some practice before a meet when their car got out of control on an icy hill and crashed into a truck Jack Snobble '44, erstwhile first lieutenant in the Army Air Forces, has been elected Captain of the Ski Team. Snobble returns from 34 combat missions with the Bth Air Force in the ETO, where he won the Air Medal with Four Oak Leaf Clusters.
