As I was poring over a blank sheet of paper, wondering what I should put in the Class Notes for this month, a communication from Hanover arrived, stating that J. Almus Russell has just been called from the headmastership of Bacon Academy, Colchester, Conn., to become head of the English department of the Dakota Wesleyan University at Mitchell, S. D. This is one of the leading Methodist colleges of the West, has 300 students and go teachers. Dr. Russell entered upon his new work September 20.
A letter recently received from Jim Chilcott said in part: "I am not a very goodsource for news, as I live out in the countryand the fact of course keeps me out oftouch with college activities. Shortly afterI moved to Bernardsville, N. J., two yearsago, someone started building a very beautiful home quite near us. Later I recognized a new commuter as our classmate,Paul Canada, and he turned out to be thenew home-owner." Jim is president of the Maltine Company, with executive offices at 60 Hudson St., New York.
Last month I referred to Sherry Baketel's move to Philadelphia, but at that time no addresses were available. I now find that his place of business is 2500 Girard Trust Building and he is living at 634 Moreno Rd., Penn Valley, Pa.
Some brief and incomplete golf news was garnered from a New York paper to the effect that Mel Merritt and Ben Ayres had been selected by Francis Ouimet, former open and amateur champion, as part of a team to represent Massachusetts in the Lesley Cup matches held in Montreal. I found out that Massachusetts was in the runner-up position, but how our boys made out individually I never did ascertain.
Why I didn't know until this fall that Herb Duffy was attorney general of Ohio is beyond me. In case there are a few others that have missed this fact, it is so recorded. He is living in Columbus, 1676 Franklin Ave., and of course his office is in the State House.
