Well, gang, thank goodness for battery-operated laptop computers! I'm presently stuck somewhere out in the (middle of the central Anatolian plateau, about two hours east of Ankara and ten hours west of my destination close to the Soviet border. The truck stopped dead in the highway, and someone from the office will come eventually with various car parts. Great fun!! Meanwhile, here's the latest gossip line.
Rumor has it (from my roommate SteveMaynard), that Dave Jones is alive and well, but has quit gold mining for Earth First! and is winning awards for penmanship. Perhaps Dave is hiding out at Lechuguilla Cave in New Mexico, where he has been instrumental in opening up new parts of this magnificent cave, recently featured in National Geographic. Maybe if we heard from Dave, we would learn the truth . ..
According to Steve, Vicki Smith Peterson and husband Kevin '82 just had their second child, Miles, to go along with first child Sam. They are living in Lyme Center, and have already taken Miles on his second trip up Mount Moosilauke (though the first trip was in utero!)
I got a note from Marty Grapes Benson awhile back. She wrote to say that life in America's heartland (Sterling, III.) was still going well. She and husband John '79 just had their fourth daughter, Ellen, to go along with Molly, Sarah, and Maggie. Marty managed to sneak off to Tampa last January to see her beloved Buffalo Bills nearly pull out Super Bowl XXV John is production manager at National Manufacturing Company which supplies all you handyman-types and fixer-uppers with all sorts of thingamajigs, doodads, and geegaws. Sorry, Marty and John, but I'm not the one to make much of a plug for hardware.

Peter joined the Lehigh faculty in 1988 after being a research fellow at the Research School of Earth Sciences at Australian National University. Among other things, Peter's specialities include Himalayan geology.
Last, but not least, a note from some other geology buddies, Cay and George Kendrick, announcing the birth of their second child, Ross, to go along with sister Cory. Last I heard from Cay and George, they were living in Yarmouth, Maine. Cay was doing graphic design and George doing foundation work at Bates College. Looking forward to hearing from y'all again soon!
