A request has come into the editors of the MAGAZINE for a resume of the freshman football season, which escaped mention in these columns largely because of space limitations.

In its first season under Coach Cowles, the yearling eleven won three of its four contests, losing only to Boston College by a g-o score. Victories were scored at the expense of Wentworth Academy, so to o; the New Hampshire freshmen, 20 to o; and the Harvard freshmen, 34 to 6. C. Whitney Miller of Seattle, Washington, regular end on the 1940 team, was elected captain following the second game of the season. The former Garfield High School star was outstanding throughout the season and should be a valuable addition to Ed Hirshbergs end squad next fall.

Although somewhat lighter than freshman teams of the past, Coach Cowles' ftfst eleven had speed and aggressiveness in operating the same style of play that is taught the varsity. Off-tackle plays and short passes were the strongest offensive weapons- Outstanding backs on the team were Bill Hutchinson of New York City; Harold Webster of Springfield, Mass.; Tom Dunlevy of Cambridge, Mass.; Buford Hayden of Hutchinson, Kansas; and Jim Weaver of Miamisburg, Ohio. Jim McElroy of Chicago was prominent as roving center, while Phil Dostal of Glencoe, 111., was a power in the line with his all-round play.

At the close of the season the Athletic Council awarded numerals to the following 34 members of the freshman squad: Oscar W. Acer Jr., Medina, N. Y.;Theodore M. Boorum, Bloomfield, N. J.; Richard H. Campbell, Wilmette, 111.; Philander L. Dostal, Glencoe, 111.; Thomas F. Dunlevy, Cambridge, Mass.; Allan L. Feldmeier, Little Falls, N. Y.; Buford M. Hayden Jr., Hutchinson, Kansas; William C.
