New Managerial System
MAY 1932 H. H. Hubbard '32

The Intramural Department, with the approval of the Athletic Council, has installed a new managerial system modelled after the regular Athletic Council managerial competition. Formerly, the practice has been to appoint intramural heelers from the ranks of the Athletic Council heelers.

To be eligible for this new competition, the freshmen applicants must have at least a 2.0 scholastic average. Mr. R. J. Delahanty, director of the Intramural Department, will interview these men and will select from them six or eight heelers to compete for the three managerial posts—general intramural manager and two activity managers. The general flianager has supervision of programs, office work, publicity, records, and schedules, in addition to which he must have large contact with the student body and executive ability. The work is not seasonal, but continues every day in the college year. The activities managers have charge of running the games, securing referees, and care of equipment. They must settle any disputes which arise on the fields, divide the departmental work between themselves, and work throughout the year. At the end of the sophomore year three men are elected from the heelers to become assistant managers, which positions they occupy for a year. At the close of that period they move up into the managers' posts automatically, receiving letters for their services.

With the close of the current intramural year, W. Watson '33, of Highland Park, Ill., will replace F. L. Browning '32 as general manager, while F. H. Porter Jr. '33, Beverly, Mass., and S. A. Colla '33, Hartford, Conn., will replace C. H. Sails '32, Framingham, Mass., and H. H. Hubbard '32, Shaker Heights, Ohio, as activities managers. E. H. Germann '34, Brooklyn, N. Y., has been elected assistant general manager, and E. S. Karstedt '34, Ponca City, Okla., and F. P. Wardwell '34, East Barnet, Vt., have been elected assistant activities managers for next year.
