DARTMOUTH NIGHT" was the occasion for the annual meeting of alumni in the Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton sector of Pennsylvania and western New Jersey. The clan started gathering at 8:30 Friday evening at Andy Marshall's home in Bethlehem and all the business was not completed until nearly 1:00 A.M. on Saturday.
Louie Ekstroqa '12, George Geiser '12, Hugo Gumbart '16, Park Karnan '17, Bob Ritter '18, Ken Smiley '21, Charley Stickney '21, Andy Marshall '22, Walter Bowlby '27, Os Skinner '28, Charley Prouty '31 and Bill Bucher '32 set an all-time high for attendance, according to the charter members present.
Following the unpleasantness of applying an automobile tire-pump to a large wooden barrel on the back porch, two onereel Hanover movies were shown. During the proceedings Bill Bucher dashed in, out of breath, from a trip to Philly to claim a $100 check he'd won that day in a prize title contest conducted by the Inquirer. Until he arrived on the scene there was a rumor about that Bill had coasted in No. 1 and copped $20,000. At half past ten the radio was tuned in on WEAF and the broadcast from Webster Hall sponsored by a prominent motor car manufacturer (name on request).
Os Skinner was elected president at the business meeting, having served with distinction as secretary since the founding, during his undergraduate days, of the Dartmouth Club of the Lehigh Valley. In line With an old Pennsylvania custom, Andy Marshall was elected to the post of Keg Tapper, which would be the equivalent of vice president and chairman of the executive committee on any organization but ours. The undersigned was named secretary, to complete the executive committee.
It was voted to hold bimonthly meetings from now on and to stage a golf outing at the Saucon Valley Country Club on a Saturday or Sunday after warmer weather arrives. Bethlehem seemed favored as the hub of operations for the club because of its central location in the Valley and the numerical strengdr of its membership. It was also decided to invite Dartmouth men in and around Reading to come into our group because of their greater proximity to Allentown-Bethlehem than to either Harrisburg or Philadelphia. This move it was felt would make for greater alumni cohesion and promote Dartmouth fellowship throughout the east central part of the state.
Visiting Dartmouths in this section are urged to call Andy Marshall at Bethlehem 1000 (Bethlehem Steel Co.) or Charley Stickney at Allentown 9581 (Allen E. Beers & Co.) for news of meetings and local goings-on.
