A Washington news item in a recent Boston Herald stated that Robert Lincoln O'Brien, chairman of the Tariff Commission, had resigned. A letter under date of May 6 from O'Brien gives this item for the Alumni Notes:
"Robert Lincoln O'Brien, for six yearschairman of the United States Tariff Commission, who had been confirmed in thatoffice until 1942, is retiring as soon as thenewly designated chairman comes to takehis place. Mr. O'Brien has remained inwarm sympathy with the whole tariffbargaining program, but has not seen eyeto eye with various administration policies. He plans to spend his winters inWashington, where he is very much interested in observing the development offederal operations." In a recent communication from the Alumni Records Office his address is given as "The Highlands, Washington, D. C.," and his occupation "traveler and lecturer."
Like Eleazar Cate of the class of 1888 the Secretary of 1891 would welcome more news items which he might send along for the alumni news of 1891.
