The Bacons enjoyed a trip to Canada during the summer. He has moved againto 11 Channing St., Cambridge, Mass. He reports the birth of a grandson, Douglass Paxson Bacon, born July 15 The Binghams were at Squirrel Island, Me., in August, visiting their daughter, Mrs. Milne. The Judge spent several summers there years ago. He also reports a grandchild, Elizabeth Pearmain Bradford Bingham, born in late August Bickford retired in June as superintendent of the Lewiston (Me.) schools. He held the position twenty-two years. .... Brackett has sold his house at Claremont and retired to his summer home on Balboa Island, Calif Cleaves reports improved health after being on crutches almost a year up to last June Conn has suffered the great loss; his wife passed away July a 6 Corwin's son Orland is fitting himself for mission work among the Indians of South America Gage spent a part of the summer in the Adirondacks, as guest of his former chief in the B. 8c A. engineering department Hill's grandson, John W. Hill Jr., enters Dartmouth this fall Mrs. Cunningham announced the marriage of her daughter, Kathryn Dana, to Donald Eugene Boness. The ceremony was performed in Brooklyn, N. Y., June 18 The July number of Country Gentleman contains a very readable article, "My Garden Sanctuary," by Johnson Junkins has been very active during the summer, out in his auto almost daily. While Hadlock was visiting him they met Rice in Portland for a conference on the fifty-year book. Hill favored us with a call Knight passed the summer on his farm with occasional visits to the office. Sec. Blakely '89 was a caller there last May, and in his excellent report described the farm as follows:
"For over thirty-five years Ed and his family have spent several months each year on a 500-acre farm. Horses, cows, sheep, pigs, turkeys, geese, ducks, hens, all thrive there. Hay and grain are produced in abundance. My New England heritage caused me to be particularly thrilled by the huge apple orchard—thousands of trees laden with fruit, almost ready to be picked, made a picture which I shall remember always. A short distance from the 'big house' and on higher ground, so that there is a view of hills and valleys in four directions, stands the house occupied by the son, Edward D., Dartmouth 'l6, and his family."
Indirectly has come word of the death of Fred Rice, who was with us freshman year. No particulars have been obtained. .... The Sanborns were at Boothbay Harbor for a week in July The Wentworths returned from Florida last May after a delightful winter, and have divided the summer between their Paterson home and the camp in the Catskills After a long illness Willey passed away at his home in Portsmouth, May 18 In attendance at the funeral were Gage, Junkins, Rice and son, Merrill and wife, also his son and son's wife, Welch, and White. .... Winn returned East early in the summer and is living in Hanover. At present he is acting as secretary for Prof. Colby The secretaries of '87 and '88 are only ten miles apart during the summer and have met several times.
