On the soccer field a Dartmouth eleven that wasn't supposed to have much in the way of outlook or material has gone through the first five games undefeated and untied with victories over Mass. State (2-0), McGill (2-1), Williams (1-0), M.I.T. (6-3), and Brown (1-0), which gives some idea of how closely matched the New England League is this fall. Reports were that the Brown-Dartmouth game was bitterly fought all the way and the triumph was a fine feather in Tom Dent's hat, for Brown is annually a power in Eastern soccer circles.

The Dartmouth freshman football story is not one of promise for the future strength of Dartmouth varsity football. The yearlings have gone down before Boston College '42, 25-0, and Holy Cross '42, 19-0. The lads are willing workers and ambitious, but they just haven't the ability or the talent. It seems strange that with Dartmouth winning so much in 1936 and 1937 numerous high school and prep school stars wouldn't be itching to play for Earl Blaik and Dartmouth. The likely answer is that the requirements for admission put the damper on the real stars and those who could enter had plenty of marks and little football, which is the way it should be every time.
