For both the women's and men's tennis teams, matches with Harvard were pivotal points in the season. The women's team took a 6-0 record to Cambridge to face the five-time defending Ivy champion Crimson. Though the Green lost five matches to four, that down-to-the-wire finish is an indication of just how far the program has come.

The men's team had a 5-4 record in the Eastern Intercollegiate Tennis Association (the eight Ivies plus Army and Navy), but it exorcised an old demon with a 5-4 victory at Harvard, the team's first win over the Crimson since 1952. The Green went on to take identical 9-0 match victories at Cornell and Army and finished the season with an overall 10-9 record.
