THE OCTOBER DINNER was held as usual at Boston City Club, Oct. 22, Frank Sanborn in charge, and with an attendance of twenty-four, including six class secretaries. This year 'go and '91 were invited with the intention of perpetuating the dinner in the younger classes as attendance diminished in the older ones. This annual meeting after the Harvard-Dartmouth game dates back over thirty years; originally an 'B7 group, later near classes were invited, bringing into yearly contact men of our time, and it became known as the Eighties Group. In the early days of the rare occasion of a victory over Harvard the dinner resolved itself into a hilarious jubilation. Now these victories are taken somewhat as a matter of course. There have been high lights: when the usually reticent Dr. Quackenboss, fresh from the World War, talked for an hour of his experiences "over there"; Ralph Bartlett '89 brought annually on his return from Russia light on that dark enigma; occurring near election, political discussion at times waxed warm, with Ed Bayley '85 as a forcible expounder of the law and the Constitution; Ed Knight '87 could be depended upon for some inimitable stories. The present occasion brought remarks from the older men, Watson '83, Bayley '85, Newton '86, and others. In the words of one present, "There was lively repartee, some good stories, and much good fellowship."

Present: class of '83, Watson; class of '855, Bayley; class of 'B6, Newton; class of '87, Burnett, Cushman, Gage, Howland, Junkins, Knight, Sanborn; class of '88, Cate, Dunlap; class of '89, Bartlett, Blakely, Frost, Moulton, Noyes, Wellman; class of '90, Hardy, McDonald, Safford; class of '91. Cobb, O'Brien, Rowe.
