TOUR DIRECTOR TIDBIT. That foresighted paragon of planning and execution, Dick Francis, has released a be prepared bulletin: '38 Golfers North will reprise last year's visit to the Hanover/Quechee circuit on Wednesday, July 18, and Thursday, July 19. Wives are, of course, included. Non-golfers might consider joining the group at dinner on Wednesday evening at the DOC. All interested should write Jack Graham, Box C-7, Hanover 03755, or call 603/643-1402.
MINI HAPPY RETURNS. In another bulletin, the aforesaid Francis announces the fall mini-reunion, set this year for September 21-23. The early date is to lure Florida snowbirds before they fly south for the winter. Dartmouth will be playing Lehigh, and as Dick cautiously puts it, ... another fabulous weekend is promised and guaranteed!"
IT TAKES GUTS. Inelegantly expressed perhaps, but sincere and noteworthy: Bob Emlen is hard at work taking violin lessons. The temptation to take this one further is here firmly resisted. Suffice it to say that it is typical of the spirit of '38. Bob, having retired last June as a stock-broker, has been born again in the private, private sector, giving stock hints, advice, and suggestions to friends on the side. He is also enthusiastic about Dartmouth Alumni trips, having, with wife Co, gone down the Danube on a recent excursion. The Emlens are also regular attendees at local forums conducted by The World Affairs Council of Philadelphia. Eventually like in the summer of '91 they plan to take up residence in Kendall Hanover, a retirement community to be situated just north of where else? Hanover.
Bob keeps in phone touch with Sandyand Jenot Mills, those denizens of the improbably named Kissing Camels Drive in Colorado Springs.
FRIESE FRIEZE. The following intelligence about Bob Friese was gleaned from an infallibly reliable source. Because Bob was off and away, engaged in some bit of out-of-home trivia, Dotty Friese was its origin. Seems she and Bob are active in the Retired Couples Club (trip-and-trek taking) and the Senior Scholars (once-a-week lectures on topics of current interest).
RYE REMARKS. Rye, New York, that is, and the remarker is Roy Duckworth who provided an update of his activities and inactivities. Enjoying retirement, Roy recently returned from Bermuda and a spate of golf and great weather.
Roy reports that the cadre of loyal '38ers who regularly visit Whitey Mays in Rocky Hill are keeping to schedule. The group includes Dick Holt, Dave Duffy, ana BudWalls, as well as Dick Francis, Red Heath,Fred Pickering, Art Soule, and HankMcDuff. Dave Camerer '37 is also an integral part of the group.
IT'S A SNAP. At least according to the 1990 National Fisherman Yearbook, which states that "Maine's Red Boutilier will do anything for a picture." The publication carried a fulsome account of Red's singleminded pursuit of a photo and his professionalism at getting it, evidenced by this judgment: "Without question Red is the best-known photographer of boat construction and launchings at major yards from Kittery to Calais." Another perception: "At 72 Red is surprisingly agile . .That last, it is suspected, was written by some unenligh-tened 40-year-old-before-his-time-er.
