As the examination period approached the pages of The Dartmouth were filled with announcements and articles which seemed to hurry into print before publication was halted to allow the board time to study. When Merrill Davis, senior class president, asked for nominations for the Commencement orators and the Commencement Ball Director, we thought, momentarily, of how soon June will be here. Then we read the proposal for a renovation of the Nugget and were immediately afraid that we would not be here long enough to benefit from such improvements as may be made.
The exam period came and the usual changes in the routine of life were made. Fortunately for those whose work might have interfered with skiing, the first Monday of the period brought the rain that has come from time to time ever since and has finally left us only patches of ice and a few frozen-snow slopes.
Tuesday the 8th of February found the second semester started, and the succeeding week was that' famous week when so little work is done, especially by members of the Carnival Committee. The words, "there is always snow for Carnival," were said more and more frequently as the week aged, but this year the only snow was that which was trucked to the jump and to the Outdoor Evening set on the golf course. Fortunately, the Moose Mountain trail had sufficient snow cover to permit the running of the downhill race and the slalom. Dartmouth's decisive victory in the Carnival ski meet made up in some degree for the absence of "rabble" skiing which is usually such a popular Carnival activity. We had a better time than we had expected, and so did others, and our congratulations to Carnival Director John IVfcLane '3B and his fine committee cannot be adequately expressed.
