Through the kindness of Mrs. Sallie R. Elliot, wife of the late Rev. Arthur Montgomery Elliot '84, the Dartmouth library has received a collection of seventeen silhouettes which were formerly owned by Reverend Elliot's grandfather, Daniel Elliot of the Class of 1813. The silhouettes, unusually delicate in design, are possibly the work of Daniel Elliot himself. They represent the following Hanover worthies: President John Wheelock, Mrs. Wheelock, Mrs. Maria Wheelock Allen, Professor Roswell Shurtleff, Mrs. Shurtleff, Dr. Cyrus Perkins, Mrs. Perkins, Professor Zephaniah Moore, Dr. Nathan Smith, Professor Ebenezer Adams, and students Henry Bond, 1813, Rufus Nutting, 1814, and William White, 1813. Four of the silhouettes have not been identified.
Baker Library already possessed a small collection containing silhouettes of Presidents Eleazar and John Wheelock, President Francis Brown, Dr. Nathan Smith, Daniel Webster, Webster's mother, Rufus Choate, Gilman Marston, 1837, and an unknown gentleman by Peale.
