Walter McDuffee died from an attack of coronary thrombosis at St. Petersburg, Fla., March 29. An account of his life will be found among the obituaries. The funeral was held in Springfield, Mass., Saturday, April second, where the class was represented by Salinger and the Secretary. The large and representative gathering at this service was indicative of how wide Mac's interests were and how completely he won the respect and friendship of those with whom he was associated.
A chat over the phone with Fud Hayes brought the news that some of his internal organs had gone on a rampage early in the year, so that Fud had to retire to a hospital for a couple of weeks or so. He was back at the game however, and sounded cheerful.
Geig sent me a note, evidently written just before they reached Rio, saying that they had had a delightful trip (Mrs. Geiger excepts for the first four days), and were looking forward to Rio life. He appreciated Stoughton's coming to the steamer to see them off.
