This month, I play the role of a society editor rather than that of a class secretary - most of our news concerns weddings. John May writes of his marriage to Barbara Snavely on August 1 in Lancaster, Pa. Among the ushers were Stu Summers and Jim Neff. After their wedding trip to St. John in the Virgin Islands, Barb took up a position in teaching to earn the bread while John finishes up at Villanova Law School. Dick Finlay married Charlotte Williams on September 12 in Fort Worth, Texas. On August 29, Vic Brizel took Janice Sue Bloom as his bride. Currently with Roberts Cushman Company in New York, Vic will receive a law degree next year from Fordham Law School. Not only smooth on the ice, but also in romance, Barlow Nelson talked Janet Coble into becoming his bride early in July in Guilford College, N. C. The couple honeymooned in Williamsburg, Va., and returned to Tulsa, Okla., where Barlow is a law student at the University of Tulsa. He has represented the Tulsa Figure Skating Club in national championships. I see that Marty Goodall was one of his ushers. Mary Yvonne Walsh nailed down Dave Campbell back in August with Al Wertheimer assisting. Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands served as the scene for their postnuptial activities.
Skipping to wedding plans for a moment, I see that John Jensen plans to marry Katharine Schmidt some time this fall. John is currently working for Socony Mobile Company. November 22 will be the day that George Hammersley signs his life away to Cathaleen Starn. For those of you who aren't satisfied with your toilet paper, George is a vice-president of Paper Products Improvements Corporation of Garfield, N. J.
Now back to weddings. Working for his Ph.D. in business at Cornell Mike D'Elia took time out to marry Margaret Susan Norman in late August. Dave Gavitt served as an usher and custodian of the punch bowl. Seeking to add something new to the dull routine of the Army, Doug Wheeler married Katherine G. Wells last June in St. Louis. The couple will live in Baltimore until the fall of 1965 when Doug will finish his Army service. Also in June, Stu Mackler, one of our doctors, decided it would be good medicine to take Elizabeth Lubell as his wife. Following a wedding trip to Jamaica, the couple returned to Brookline, Mass., to live. Respecting the prescription of his classmate and fellow doctor, Arnie Rosenblatt followed Stu's advice and married Linda Kades in July. Arnie is now a resident at Boston Qity Hospital. And that concludes this month's society section.
Turning to miscellaneous news items, JimGroundwater received his Doctor of Medicine degree from Western Reserve University in June. Dave Robinson is business manager and also doing some teaching at the Comprehensive High School in Nigeria. He should be returning to the States some time in late December or early January. Pete Johnson, an ex-carrier pilot for the U.S. Navy, has accepted the position of research assistant for Sanders Associates, Inc., of Nashua, N. H. That company is a big producer of electronic systems. Still helping to keep the country's guard up, Shelton Fisher was recently up-graded after passing rigid academic and flying requirements to a cargo master aircraft commander at Dover Air Force Base, Del. Up north of the border, Jon Schonblom received his degree of Doctor of Medicine from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto. He is currently residing with his family in Vancouver, British Columbia, where he is interning at St. Paul's Hospital. I guess he doesn't have to decide how to vote this November. BillSchultz completed the long grind and received his Ph.D. from Rutgers in June. Now ready to give a few shots for space sickness around the, launching pads at Cape Kennedy, Jim Meyers recently completed the orientation course for officers of the U. S. Air Force Medical Service which dealt with specialized aerospace medical subjects. Actually, James is being assigned to Chambley Air Force Base, France. He will join the medical staff there to practice as a physician and help provide medical service in support of the U. S. Air Force in Europe mission providing the major air contribution for defense of the NATO countries.
Some news concerns those '59s who have been in and out of Hanover in recent months. Dave and Cynthia Marshall left Tuck School in June for a position in New York City and are now giving midnight feedings to a brand new daughter. She will probably steal men's hearts more times than her old man stole second base. Wayne Skeen is back in town making piles of money selling encyclopedias while his wife teaches at a nearby high school. Dick Sameth and his wife were in town a few weeks ago for the alumni club officers meetings. I think some of the stuff he sells as pest control material fell on his forehead. I had to look way way back before I saw any sign of hair. ScottyPalmer cuts a distinct Latin American figure as he strides across campus with his brushy mustache and careens around corners in his ancient automobile. He has also picked up the aromatic habit of smoking woodentipped South American cigars.
Things go well in Hanover. The big tilt with Princeton takes place tomorrow. It will be a thing of the past by the time you receive this MAGAZINE. Next column will try to catch up on all our classmates who made it back with general admission tickets clutched firmly in hand. Hope to see many of you as I begin my fall travel schedule for the Admissions Office.
