The most inspiring scene the secretary observed the past month was at the Eastern States Exposition in Springfield, Massachusetts. One evening I took my daughter Barbara to attend the horse show and during the proceedings in marched the 4-H Clubs of all the New England states preceded by their bands, dressed in uniforms suitable to the occasion. It was an inspiring sight and made doubly so to the secretary by the leader of this young host, namely our own classmate George L. Farley. He was given round after round of cheers from the splendid audience present.

Jim Aubey's grandson, now in the second grade, keeps both his parents and grandparents up to date when it comes to modern education.

Jack Spring sent in such a good write-up of the '9B round-up June 3 that I take pleasure in inserting it.

Eollowing its custom, the Class held its annual summer gathering at the home of Bucky Chandler at Plymouth, on the Cape. Joe Bartlett who has a summer home next door was a co-host to the class. Bucky and his wife have made over their summer place into a most delightful all year round house. Most of the afternoon we sat around discussing old times, taxes, politics, and various operations and sympoms of approaching age—with proud references now and then to our respective offspring. Littlefield, the poet laureate of the class, read a poem written for the occasion, and our genial secretary produced his ever-present suitcase and read innumerable letters from absent classmates. Late in the afternoon we enjoyed a basket lunch on the beautiful grounds overlooking the bay. Bucky and Joe are extremely fortunate in being able to live near one another for so long, and Bucky and his wife should be proud of their success as parents and home-makers.

The following were present: Joseph W. Bartlett and wife, Henry Crowley and wife, George L. Farley and wife and daughter, W. Everett Hoyt and wife, Charles W. Littlefield and wife, H. Philip Patey and wife, Clarence E. Sibley and wife brought up by his brother Otis Sibley '97, Chester F. Williams and wife, James R. Chandler and wife, and married daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Tarbell, Mrs. Charles D. Montgomery, Dr. John R. Noyes and wife, Fred S. Pole and wife, E. W. Snow and wife, John R. Spring and wife.

In September the secretary called on Dick Marcy and Mrs. Dick at their summer home Todd Hill, Rindge, N. H. They were just completing the garage and starting the new cottage. They certainly have a beautiful location for a summer home. Dick has succeeded in selling their property on Bedford Road in Lincoln and they plan now to start south November first, spending six months at Sarasota, Florida and six months in New England.

Air Mail Winter Address 115 East Fifth St., Long Beach, California. DEAR "PATE":—

Answering your numerous and most welcome letters, first herewith check for MAGAZINE. Now about ourselves:—we tarried at our summer home, 8 Summer St., Rochester, New Hampshire, from June 21st to Sept. 6th, last, arriving at Long Beach, Cal.; then, via our auto, 3270 miles in 51/2 days. Our only daughter, Martha Joan Jones was 12 years old on July fifteenth, 1939, is now a young lady and attends the Franklin Junior High School here, belongs to the Girl Scouts, is greatly interested in athletics, especially ice skating (the year around in this wonderful unusual climate) and swimming.

My various financial activities include also that of a citrus grower, with an orange grove of 12 acres in Anaheim, Cal. the City where Gary '9B, whom I am very happy to see often, lives. I also attend occasionally at Los Angeles, the Dartmouth Wednesday Weekly lunch at the "Haywood," and see many of the younger Alumni. During Nov. '39 we attended a Dartmouth Dinner at the Wilshire Bowl, where Walter Wanger 'l5 was host to the Dartmouth Football Team. This was an evening of pleasures never to be forgotten; wonderful Phil Harris Orchestra, dancing to Dartmouth Songs, Lambeth Walk, the team having such partners as Norma Shearer, Loretta Young, Virginia Bruce, Myrna Loy, Merle Oberon, and Hostess, Joan Bennett. We are still very keen on dancing, and still aim to keep young rather than to make money and reach the status of millionaires. We attended the New York World's Fair this summer, endeavored to see "Ted" Leggett, "Fritz Robbert, "Ikey," but no success, but were fortunate enuf to see Harry Gilmore 'OO.

"Banty" is the same fine wife, and is plenty busy with the various social activities of Long Beach. We were very happy to reune with MR. "ICR" and MRS. MARY CRANE, here in the Spring of '9B on their way to Honolulu.

Too much of "NUFF SAID," we are signing off, and desire all who can to see us here at Long Beach in Winter, or at Rochester, New Hampshire in Summer. Kindest to your wife and family.

Most cordially and classfully yours,

Secretary, ...
