PLANS FOR THE new dormitory, for which excavating has begun just west of Russell Sage Hall, have been approved by the Committee on Student Residence and call for accommodations for 59 men in 15 double suites and 29 single rooms.
The building has been carefully planned by J. Fredrick Larson, College architect, to meet the convenience of students and includes several features suggested by an undergraduate committee last spring. Space has been provided for a social room, a ping-pong room, and a ski room with lockers for each resident. Two suites on each floor will have pinepaneled studies.
All rooms will be equipped with built-in wardrobes, a feature to be found in the newer dormitories. A new type door lock, expected to be proof against coat hangers and hockey sticks inserted through the letter slot, will be standard equipment. Although the new dormitory is being built within the area of higher priced rooms, Dean Neidlinger has announced that with the exception of the special suites on each floor, the rental figures will be near the campus average.
The contract for building the dormitory has been let to the H. P. Cummings Construction Company, whose schedule calls for the building's being ready by next September.
