Just ten days after the tragic Commencement Day death of Stacey Coverdale '88, an anonymous donor ensured that her memory will endure at the College.

Coverdale had worked in the Hood Museum as a student guard for two terms during her undergraduate years. The museum she once watched over now houses a rare and important piece of Native American handiwork purchased in her honor a mid-nineteenth century man's velvet beaded cap of the Mimac tribe of the Northeastern Woodlands.

"Through the acquisition of an object that relates to Stacey's heritage and that by its significance will have regular use in exhibition and teaching the Hood Museum honors the promise of Stacey's young life for whose loss we are all the poorer," said Tamara Northern, senior curator. Visitors to the Hood can view the cap in the Gutman Gallery.
