"In doing a bit of traveling last spring I made calls at the homes of Jimmy Bartlett, Rockford, Ill.; Harry Jordan, Waukegan, Ill.; Ted Redington, Pasadena, Calif.; and Bruno Kimball, Ogden, Utah. I also lunched with Bruno at Los Angeles. Also I visited my son Bill at Hanover, where I breakfasted several times with Harry Heneage. Jamison and Kitching called on me."
"Runt" Martin, who wrote the above is now living at 909 Sherman Ave., Evanston, Ill.
A most interesting recent announcement is that of the engagement and prospective marriage of the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Rice Kimball, Barbara, to Matt Sandefur Browning, of Ogden, Utah. The wedding will have taken place, before this is published, in the First Presbyterian church of Ogden, followed by a reception in the Kimball home. The young couple will leave immediately afterward for Europe, where Mr. Browning has business interests.
Bruno writes further, and most interestingly, about the Pow-Wow and the Stanford game. Although the Pow-Wow has already been reported in the ALUMNIMAGAZINE and the press, quotation from Bruno's letter is sure to interest '07 men. "While this third Pow-Wow did not have the numbers of the other two, it certainly had the spirit. Even Frank Garby showed up, and Bit Hoyt traveled way across the Bay (takes him ten minutes) to be there. Among those I saw was Sam Barnes. Shall I keep quiet about the game? No! There was absolutely nothing to be ashamed of. A good little team met a good big team, and, with a temperature of over 70°, the Dartmouth team just melted away. 'They were fast, smart, and game to the bitter end. My son is on Stanford's rally committee. Bill said he had to design one or two 'card' stunts for our game, and I told him of Eleazar and the rum and he followed my idea and it made a big hit. A big brown hogshead with the numerals 500 on it and the word RUM below it."
Incidentally Bruno represented Dartmouth at the semi-centennial celebration of Utah State Agricultural College last June.
A Christmas greeting was received from Miss Mary Beals, class baby, from Phoenix, Natal, South Africa, addressed to the Secretary, but intended (I am sure) for the class.
Al White writes a most friendly note from St. Louis,—and encloses his check for $3. The Secretary-Treasurer will be happy to have more letters of that kind. A similar one just received from "Deac" Leonard.
Which reminds me! How are you all enjoying your ALUMNI MAGAZINE, which is now going to every '07 graduate? Isn't it worth many times its subscription price?
