DR. ARTHUR H. RUGGLES '02, superintendent of Butler Hospital, Providence, and an alumni trustee of the College, was honored by the Men's Club of Temple Emanu-El of Providence last month when he became the first recipient of a silver plaque emblematic of "out- standing achievement in the field of civic improvement, human betterment and the advancement of American ideals."
After setting forth the basis of award, the plaque contains the inscription: "Presented to Dr. Arthur H. Ruggles, M.D., who with vision and zeal has so ably charted the course and directed the broadening of social welfare work in our city into a unified and integrated community plan." In addition to his work as superintendent of Butler Hospital and as lecturer on psychiatry, Dr. Ruggles has directed the work of the Council of Social Agencies in Providence.
