Elderkin writes from Athens, Greece: 'We sailed from New York early in September and arrived in Athens toward the end of that month. I had been appointed annual professor at the American School of Classical Studies for the present academic year. The first weeks of the school year were spent in trips of the students to the various sites of archaelogical interest in northern Greece and in the Peloponnesus. These trips continued until the end of November, when the weather no longer favored excursions of the sort. Since then I have been here in the city working at the school, with the exception of one day each week when, if the weather is favorable, we have taken short excursions to points of interest in the vicinity of Athens. The school has few students, because only graduates of colleges who are specially interested in Greek archaeology come here. I am having a wonderful year in a city where shortly after graduation I spent four years as a student. The school was founded over fifty years ago and has been a great factor in the promotion of antique culture in the States. It has splendid equipment and a fine library."
