"Art" Ruggles has for many years been Superintendent of the Butler Hospital at Providence, R. I. This hospital is devoted largely to the treatment of psychiatric cases and Dr. Arthur H. Ruggles has become, indeed, one of the leading psychiatrists of the country, last year being honored by election to the presidency of the American Psychiatric Association. Arthur has had many other well deserved honors, has taught at Yale, but always kept his intense interest in Dartmouth and Hanover, serving as a trustee of the college in the recent years. Arthur has one son, twenty-eight years old, and a daughter, Ann, twenty-three. His son, Arthur Jr., graduated from Dartmouth in 1937 and last year joined the Ski Patrol in the Army.

Both "Art" Ruggles and "General" Stone had major tragedies in 1939, in that both lost their wives in that year, and those of us who have been more fortunate do extend our deepest sympathy. The "General" wrote me in so sad a tone last year that I felt badly. To quote, he said: "My children have all gone with the wind, and business has retired from me. Sorry I can't make reunions. Hope to get a job with the Gov't in another week." If I know the General, he got a job, his chin is not down, and he'll be back at our next reunion.

This war, with our youth away, has furnished many a grand opportunity for some of us old timers to go to work or improve our incomes. Dr. Burr Whitcher has removed from St. Albans, N. Y., down into the center of things at Mount Holly, N. J., where he has opened an office and is doing splendidly well.
