Joe and Mrs. Joe made ideal hosts and everyone present had a most delightful time. Joe has been serving this summer as chairman of the Franklin D. Roosevelt Library Committee to obtain funds for library at Hyde Park, N. Y. to house the president's personal and state papers. Joe has also been appointed by Governor Saltonstall to serve on the executive committee of the committee of one hundred for public safety.

The Secretary and Mrs. Patey left Boston, February 27 and returned April 27. They visited Washington, D. C., New Orleans, El Paso, Phoenix, Pasadena, San Francisco, Salt Lake City, Laramie, Denver, and Chicago. "Mushy" Jones with his bighearted and generous nature took the Secretary for an automobile ride and on the way Fred Bennis was picked up at Laguna Beach and we three called on Guy Gary at Santa Ana. We had one fine '98 reunion then and there. Guy stands as straight as an Indian and was in fine health. Later "Mush" and I hunted up John Moulton, who was with '98 one year. John is as enthusiastic about Dartmouth as ever. Mrs. Moulton was very gracious to her husband's Dartmouth classmates. Pete Adams and his brother Edward Adams and their wives gave us a grand time in Pasadena. In Berkeley we re-uned with the Swifts and met Mrs. Swift for the first time. We surely would like to have all the Swifts to our 45th.

Ev Snow and Ruth are planning to spend the fall and winter on the Pacific Coast. Ted Leggett scored on the Alumni Fund—130% of contributors and 137% of objective. What a Class Agent! What an enthusiastic and inspiring Dartmouth booster! Everett Hoyt and wife took a wonderful trip to Alaska this summer. Seth Pope has greatly improved in health. His wife and two daughters and their children kept him happy on the Sandwich beach this summer. Who wouldn't get well in such a jocund company?

1898 certainly extends its sincere sympathy to the class of 1899 in the passing of that delightful companion and enthusiastic Dartmouth man Willis Hodgkins.

An interesting letter has come to the Secretary from Nelson M. Blake, the son of our first secretary Herbert Blake. I gladly quote below a few extracts from it.

"I graduated from Dartmouth in 1930, the same year that father died. The next year I worked for my master's degree at Brown University. I then taught three years in Gardner High School. I received my Ph.D. from Clark University in 1936. I now hold the rank of Assistant Professor of History in Syracuse University. We have a young son, James Herbert, born May 24 of this year. My sister Priscilla is now 20 and has just completed her sophomore year at Syracuse University. My mother continues to live in Gardner, Mass. and keeps busy and happy."

The '98 Round-up before the Dartmouth-Harvard game Saturday, October 26, will take the form of a luncheon at 11:45 a.m. at Hotel Commander, Cambridge, within easy walking distance of the Harvard Stadium, the day of the game.
