We remain in business at the same old stand. Luncheon daily, except Saturdays, Sundays and certain Holy Days of Obligation. Always something doing at the bar in Wheelock Tavern, 11:00 to 11:00. Pink Ladies for the ladies in the beautiful Ivory Room (named for Eleazar's wife). Cards played, rooms rented, checks cashed, theatre tickets scrounged, everything for the Dartmouth man. Drop in when you're in town. (Why not take out a non-resident membership first? Only ten bucks. A bargain.)
The Perspectives in Business series continues under the guidance of handsome Mutt Ray '37. On the first Wednesday in December, Josh Davis '26, President of William Blair & Co., investment bankers, talked to a capacity audience in the Webster Room on the ins and outs and ups and downs of The Markets. You might have heard a pin drop on the first Wednesday in January as Courtney Brown '26, Dean of Columbia University's School of Business addressed another capacity house on, "Major Influences within Business during the Next Decade."
Future speakers, on the first Wednesdays of the months to come: Roswell Magill '16, authority among authorities on Federal taxation, - Wednesday, February 4. George Champion '26, President, The Chase-Manhattan Bank of New York, - Wednesday, March 4. Orvil Dryfoos '34, President, The New York Times, - Wednesday, April 1 (a courageous man!).
Other coming events: A Calypso Party, complete with incense and the haunting beat of the Talbot Bros'. 400 octane gasoline drums, on a Sunday afternoon in February - which Sunday still to be determined by Entertainment Chairman Nels Ehinger '52 (Drat these young fellers!). A gala reception for former officers and governors of the Club, on Wednesday, March 4, following George Champion's talk, at which you can ward off the cold while meeting the men who built up the surplus that allows us to have the best club in town at less than wholesale prices. An exhibition of paintings, to be hung all over the place by the Downtown Galleries, at an early date still to be determined by Activities Chairman Dek Davidson '52 (Drat these young fellers!).
The squash teams, under captain Howie Sargeant '32, continue to win in the Metropolitan Squash Racquets League, and the bridge team, comprised of twelve co-eds from good old U. of Peru and playing captain Perry Davis '54, continues to win in the College Clubs Bridge League. I think.
Of this I am sure: The bar is open daily, except Sundays.
